Our First Full Season: S65 Review

Written by SP Roulers at 15:43 24/7-2023

SP Roulers started off the season with one goal in mind: have fun in winning. What this meant for the team was to not have too high expectations, and just ride for the passion, not always for the result. The team quickly had the first results, and Shane McGregor was performing exceptionally well in the lower divisions.

The team was in full support of Shane, and eventually the winning streak culminated in perhaps the highlight of the team’s first season, after McGregor was able to comprehensively secure the sprint jersey at the Tour of Sanreizan. Whilst not a major tour by any standards, it was confirmation the team had talent to be taken seriously. To win something of prestige so early in the career of the team is worth more than any cash prize.

Following the tour win, the team struggled a little, but following the signing of Andres Skopal and Fred de Schutter, as well as tweaking our lead out strategies to get the most out of the whole team, we were able to secure some more results in division 6 towards the end of the season.

After a mostly positive and successful season, the team has found itself in the tail end of division 5, with the possibility of signing up for our first classic race, well suited for the team. It’s a matter of hours if we’ll have enough points to remain available for signup on day 89. Skopal should be able to ride in top form if we do reach signup, however key lead out, McGregor will be out with an injury, future captain talent in Ainscough will join in his place. The team will be weakened by not having McGregor, but Skopal should be in great form, and will maybe do well, and possibly even be able to get our first trophy for the team, and with a little luck, start season 66 off as well as season 65 went for us. Whatever happens, the team will ride for our be result, and just relish on the possibility of already being able to compete in a division 5 classic.
